Who Are You Looking For?

The Lights of Guidance by Mawlana Shakykh Nazim

Tomb of Jalaal-ud-Din Rumi

Someone came to Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi weeping and begging him to return to him his lost son. He said, “My son is seven years old and I do not know where he is. All the doors are closed except your door until you return him back to me. I do not know whether he has died or whether he is still alive.”

The Shaykh said to him, “Glory to Allah! And why are you looking for the child?”

He said, “He is my child and I would ransom him for the whole world.”

Hearing this the Shaykh said, “People have all lost Allah yet no one is asking about Him or looking for Him! Has Allah become cheaper than this child? O man, go in quest of your nurturing Lord and you will find Him, then your child will be returned to you just as Yusuf was returned to Ya’qub - upon them the blessings and peace Allah.”
