The Spiritual Energy of True Men

The Lights of Guidance by Mawlana Shakykh Nazim ق

Elders of the Naqshbandi Haqqani Sufi Order

A long time ago a young man entered the masjid to pray. He heard the shaykh teaching there saying, “the high energy of true men uproots mountains, and high energy is part of faith”. And he explained this subject. Then he said, “truly, whoever has high spiritual energy, even if he decided to marry the king’s daughter, it would take place for him, for the possessor of high spiritual energy is not deprived of anything in this world.”

The young man said to himself, “this is enough for me”. He got up from the gathering and headed for his village, where he sold everything he owned and then headed to the king’s palace.

When he tried to enter the palace, the guards blocked him. He kept trying to enter and the guards kept blocking him for 4 years. One day, as he was peering inside the palace, he noticed the king taking a walk in his garden as the guards were looking at the king. He seized the opportunity and ran towards him but the guards caught him. He started shouting, “Let go of me! I am the king’s son-in-law!” The king was curious about his statement so he asked him about his purpose.

The young man said, “I want to marry your daughter.” The king agreed, on the condition that the dowry must be seven camel-loads of jewels engraved with the image of the archangel Jibril (Gabriel) ﵍” - the cost of each of these jewels being equal to the entire treasury of seven countries. The young man said, “I accept; but tell me, where can I find them?” The king said, “from the greatest ocean, where the fish that go hunting will have such jewels in their bellies.”

The young man took his leave from the king. He went and bought a pail, then he sat on the shore of the greatest ocean with the intention of emptying it of all its water so that he would acquire those jewels. He kept at it for seven years. For a wisdom Allah ﷾ knew of, the king happened to pass near the that beach as he was strolling in the countryside. His gaze fell on the young man who was busy emptying the ocean. He sent his vizier to enquire about that man. When the vizier went to him to ask him, the young man expelled him, saying, “do not delay me from my work!” The vizier was perplexed and informed the king.

When the king came in person to ask the man about his story, he replied to him that he wanted to put together a dowry for the king’s daughter. At that time the king remembered him and took him with him, saying, “my daughter’s dowry has certainly reached me. Whoever is like you, the greatest king’s daughter would be fit for him.”

After that the king abdicated his throne in favour of him. That is due to his high spiritual energy and his perseverance in his work. How much hardship did this man endure in order to marry the king’s daughter!
