How will you die?

Tomb of Fariduddin Attar One day a dervish who came to Attār's ق pharmacy to ask for medicine was amazed by the magnificence of the shop. Wide-eyed, he looked about the shop and then began to scrutinize Attār's ق appearance. Attār ق asked the man why he was staring at him.

"I was wondering how you are going to die when you have to leave all this wealth behind," the dervish answered.

Feeling insulted, Attār ق angrily replied, "I will die just as you will."

"But I have nothing to worry about. All I have is the cloak on my back and this kashkul (begging bowl). Now, do you still claim you will die the way I will?"

"Of course," answered Attār ق.

Upon hearing this, the dervish uttered the name of God and, using his kashkul as a pillow, lay down and died.
